Process
Design Development
Process is a method in which solutions to a design problem are developed over time within a conceptual framework as defined by both the client's needs and design team's experience.
Research and development of site and context
A successful project starts with a clear understanding by both the client and designer of what the scope of work is what the site is and how the built environment relates to the context of the problem. Before any work begins, a clear underlying must be developed regarding the site and how the buildings design addresses it and the clients needs.
Concept Development
The concept is necessary in order to create a successful, interesting and thought-provoking project. Chenier Design explores, in depth, the appropriate concept which inevitably sets the stage for the rest of project. Development of a concept gives life and meaning to the built project.
As-Built Drawings
Before beginning each new project, a set of as-built plans must be created in order to begin the development of a design. Many times clients have these existing drawings. In most residential projects and in some commercial building projects this is not the case. Chenier Design will generate a set of as-builts if none are available.
Programming
The scope of work is typically introduced by the client, developed by the designer and transformed into a program. The program is a written description of the spatial components and the square footage necessary for each space in. The program serves as a tool to assure the client that all spatial needs are met by the architect.
Code Research
The building code search allows the architect to identify what the building department requires with respect to requirements such as adequate parking, ingress and egress, fire and safety, health, and ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). This information is added to the construction documentation prior to submittal to the different building department agencies.
Architecture, Interior, and Landscape Design
Chenier Design considers a built environment to be comprised of many parts. Not every client requires all services at one time, however, it is important to think of the design process as one which encompasses the interior spaces, the exterior shell and the landscaped environment as one compositional piece.
Construction Documentation
Once a design is developed and approved by the client, construction documents are prepared. Chenier Design is meticulous in thinking through every detail of the project in the construction documents thus reducing the risk of mistakes, additional costs, and wasted time.
Specifications Writing
Specifications are the written version of a set of construction documents. These are one of the elements of a system of checks and balances which insures clear communication between the client, architect and the contractor.
Purchasing
Chenier Design will advise and can purchase items such as furniture, art, wall coverings, accessories, fixtures and lighting.
Project and Construction Management
To insure a high standard of quality and timeliness in the execution of the project, Chenier Design is continually involved in every aspect of the process so that the final product is completed specifically to the clients own expectations and standards.

Design Philosophy
Every client possesses a unique set of needs, including efficient use of materials, space and time, ease of communication, aesthetic preference, and sensitivity to budget. Chenier Design establishes a commitment to each its clients by assisting them in identifying their own unique design requirements, and through the design process, explores and presents various possibilities each project inevitably retains within it.
